Company Overview: If you like what one shopper describes as “quality of life” assignments, meaning those that are fun or enjoyable or entertaining, then this is a mystery shopping company you should check out. On the flip side, if you only are concerned about adding revenue to your bottom line, then you might want to take a pass.
Amusement Advantage has been involved in the attractions industry since 1977, and is operating out of Arvada, Colorado. The company states that it has work available in all 50 states and Canada. This MSC has established mystery shopping programs with over 250 facilities nationwide.
The website for Amusement Advantage lists some of their clients, which are involved in amusement parks, water parks, theme parks, entertainment centers, zoos and aquariums, wildlife parks, museums, bowling centers, rolling skating centers, mini golf courses, fairs and carnivals, stadiums and arenas, theaters, go-kart tracks, ski resorts, and an old favorite of mine when I was younger – laser tag centers.
Amusement Advantage offers three payment methods. Shoppers can receive payment via PayQuicker in 10-17 days, via PayPal in 21-28 days, or via check in 45-60 days.
Their application process should give you a heads-up that their reports are a bit heavy on the narrative, as there are several areas requiring you to submit lengthy essay answers. To get started, visit http://amusementadvantage.com.
As soon as you have completed the application, you will be able to access their job board. Amusement Advantage also posts available assignments on the Mystery Shop Forum.
This MSC supports MSPA certification, and that is reflected by allowing certified shoppers to self-assign. Otherwise, shoppers can request shops, and those will be awarded by those with the highest scoring on prior shops and/or the best available dates to complete the project.
The opinion of shoppers on www.mysteryshopforum.com about Amusement Advantage are, for the most part, very favorable. Schedulers are described as being approachable, helpful, reasonable, responsive, and flexible. More than a few forum members have said that Amusement Advantage is great to work with.
As stated before, the assignments offered by this MSC are not money-makers. The company itself says that because the shops are fun, in many cases they don’t provide a large payment or any payment aside from the reimbursement of expenses.
However, those that enjoy the type of entertainment venues that are available through Amusement Advantage can reap the benefits of free tickets and/or partial or full reiumbursement. This can add up in value, depending upon the assignment. The key to making this work is to watch your spending as best you can so that you don’t have to outlay any more of your own cash than you need to.
There are two major drawbacks to these assignments. The first is that multiple interactions and/or purchases are required, and the on-site visit can be anywhere from 3 to 6 hours, depending upon the venue. Some shoppers say these are too much work.
The second is that reporting is very detailed, and requires lengthy narrative, sometimes taking several hours to complete. The one saving grace for this is that Amusement Advantage provides the shopper with a generous amount of time in which to complete and submit the report.
Even so, these jobs go fast. Many say that they enjoy doing these assignments, and that it’s a great way to do something fun.
Personal Experience: I have yet to complete an assignment for Amusement Advantage as there haven’t been any available in my area. I’d like the chance to try one out.
