- Kern Scheduling. Kern is one of the largest scheduling companies out there. They are very reputable. I highly recommend registering with them!
- ShadowShopper. This is one of the most controversial scheduling companies out there — because they charge a fee for their services. However, many shoppers have gotten their start with ShadowShopper, and recommend them wholeheartedly.
- Direct Scheduling Services. This company sometimes posts jobs on my very own job board at MysteryShopForum.com. They have a good reputation. They are still relatively new — so they might not have as many assignments for you yet.
- Coast to Coast Scheduling Services. Another reputable company. You can search for assignments without registering. Pretty handy.
I have paid to be a mystery shopper and I have yet to have my first mystery shop its been about 2 years. I don’t know what to say about this company…..

It’s as Jacob says, you have to sign up for many companies. I’ve never paid to be a mystery shopper, and I have more work than I can handle. I work for about 12 different companies regularly, and as many as 45 althogether. I don’t know where in the US you are, but if you’re not very close to a large metropolitan area, there may not be as much work there for you. However, if you are, go to volition.com; you’ll see there are many companies listed there. Put applications in to as many as you can. You’re going to get tired of filling out the same information over and over again, but on the plus side, you’ll only have to do it once. I signed up for one company last March, and just did my first job for them 2 weeks ago. You never know when a distant company is going to get clients in your area. I urge you, sign up for as many companies as you can. You won’t regret it.

I mystery shopped through Shadow Shopper for 6 months and never got one job through them ,so I cancelled my membership with Shadow Shopper. I am doing much better without them. I really don’t think you should have to pay to get mystery shopping jobs, considering everything you have to do, including the price of gasoline now.
Tammie — The first thing you should do to become a mystery shopper is to master basic English language skills, such as the art of using capital letters, the importance of complete sentences, and the urgency of correct punctuation and spelling. Once you have those skills, it should be easier to pick up shops.

Hi Everyone ! I have been a mystery shopper for almost thirty years. My children grew up on mystery shopping. Because of their experience as observers, they have an appreciation and an expectation of great customer service, soso customer service and very poor customer service. This learning experience has provided them with the tools and skills to be better employees and better customers.
I enjoy being a mystery shopper. I have never gotten rich, but I do like the flexability of hours and to work when I want.

Any mystery shop asking for money, is not what they claim to be. I work for many different companies and never ben asked to pay for anything. When I started, I joined Shadow Shopper, then later I got my silver certification from MSPA. I would look around before I put out any money.

Tammie, you will never get jobs unless you learn to spell and capitalize and make complete sentences. Have you been taught any punctuation rules? First conquer your English and then try mystery shopping.
Barbara is right. I have belonged to Shadow Shopper forever and have never done one job for them. I do tons of mystery shops for other companies and am very happy with them.

the sign up fee was Ten dollars. I completed my biography, submitted a picture and wrote a great letter of introcudtion, decribing my related experience and education. I feel that submitting a well written bio and profile is essential to recieving job offers.
It seems that many companys list their job postings via this site. shadow shopper is a data bank of available mytery shoppers that companyes can acces when in need of a new shopper in a certain area.
Companies have called me requesting my services completing local assignments
I have completed shops, and recieved compensation within a resonable period of time.
I have had no good luck earning money completing surveys. many require completing offers from third parties or other sponsers to recieve compsation and I feel this is a scam. getting paid to read e-mail and send earnings, well you must read about 2 thousand to get maybe the ten dollars minimum pay out.
keep searching the job boards posted on shadow shopper and make sure the material posted in your bio is well written, And quite honestly, if you do not have the experience or skills required to perform the assignments, dont’ wste your time in applying for positions that you are not qualified for.

I’ve been shopping with this company for two years. Lots of variety – movies, QSR dining, fast food, fine dining as well as a variety of retail. I travel quite a bit out-of-state and they seem to have a lot of shops in IL, TX, NC, CA, MO as well as the Mid-Atlantic states.
They do all their scheduling in-house and have a Toll Free number if you run into a problem.

I have been a Mystery Shopper for the last twelve years. I signed up with Shadow Shopper when I was starting. I used the information in their posting to find Mystery Companies that were shopping in my area. I never received one job by using the Shadow Shopper web site and after I had found several companies doing shops in my area I canceled my membership. I have found a lot more companies by going to searching the web looking for “mystery shopping”.
I have tried paying to get “certified” and I did not get any more work, I think this is just another rip off.
If you truly want to get into mystery shopping please check out http://www.mysteryshop.org, this is the Mystery Shopping Providers Association. For $15 you may become a certified shopper and well educated in the ways of mystery shopping, I strongly suggest this training. Many companies prefer certified shoppers, some use only certified shoppers. I have been shopping for about three months and have all the work I can to schedule. Best of luck!
I have been doing mystery shopping for 2-3yrs. Many leads for companies looking for shoppers I get from Shadow Shopper. The trouble is you don’t get to see the companies names until you sign-up and pay a monthly fee. You only need to do this for a month or two. Get signed-up with the other companies and drop the Shadow Shopper if you want. The lists of companies that Jacob Jans has given out is GREAT! Start signing up and don’t forget to print a page with the company name,your Login, and password! Put them in a folder. Also put the companies in your favorites, or address book.

I signed up with Shadowshopper without paying a dime. Their “bronze” membership is free. They send you emails with jobs near you but without the specifics – for these you would need to pay. However, if you look closely at the list of “jobs”, you’ll often find the true corporation that is posting the job and if you sign up with them (for free) you’ve got it. Also, I’ve had schedulers call me just because my name is out there with Shadowshopper.
I am requesting a list of companies that are hiring

There seems to be a misconception about ShadowShopper. It is not a mystery shopping company. It’s more like a job board. What you are paying for is to have job opportunities delivered to your inbox. You can register with them for free and even though you can’t see who most of the companies are, they can see your information. I got my first job because a company got my information from SS and contacted me. I did that job and did it very well, so I decided it was worth it to get started. I paid a trial gold membership($4.95) and started applying for as many jobs as I could. I signed up with every company that I could that came through SS. I’m still signing up with companies.I got that first job on September 30,2009. In October, I did about 8 jobs and so far this month, I’ve done close to 25. I dropped the SS membership after the trial was over. It was definitely worth the $4.95 though. It’s a good way to get your information out to the companies that have the jobs. I think anyone who registers and doesn’t get jobs might be doing something wrong. I hope this helps someone that’s trying to break into the business.

I’ve been shopping for a little over a year. From the dates I’m seeing from these postings, not many follow-through. These newsletters are invaluable. One of the essential keys to mystery shopping is a stick-to-it approach. I live in a very large city but, I’ve done 800 number telephone shops throughout the country. These don’t always pay much but, you can do them in your pajamas.
As for Shadow Shopper I too paid for the certification however, I got one of my best and current shops from them. These shops require little time or effort, and pay very well. I made $2700 from them alone last year. Keep in mind, proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is a must. If you need to upgrade these skills, many of the companies have sample writings. Use them. Hi! I just finished readinf through a large number of blogs on mystery shopping. Interesting. I live in a rural area of Tx. and I signed up with Shadow Shoppers in June and within a week I had job offers coming in. I’ve been busy as I want to be since then. The pay could be better but it’s my choice. I like the freedom to choose and schedule as I want. I’m a grandmother and I keep my grandkids. This works great. I won’t get rich but it’s keeping me busy and active! I work for 2 of the prefered companies. Thanks! Liz
This is in response to Angie Warwick and others like her: When you write something that other people can see be sure to use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. It is also a good idea to proof read or review what you have written before sending it to a shopping company or anywhere else in public. Once it is out there it is available for anyone to see including future employers. Many of the people that are complaining there are no jobs have no writing skills.
