How is the $5 Assignment Boycott Going for You?

I wonder if any of you noticed any difference at the end of last month?  Have asked for more money, or turned down more shops?

Here’s to never accepting degradingly low pay!

With gasoline at $4 per gal and rising, I allow the first $5 for gas, the rest is my pay. I refuse ALL assignments under $10.

  2. LaGata says:

My, oh my! So many bonuses raising shops to $8-15. I do hope this trend continues! Might the $5 boycott have helped??? Too bad it had to come to that.

  3. Linda says:

Bonus rates are given at the end of the month when they are scrambling for shoppers. I mentioned the $5 boycott to several of my companies and they could care less. They said well you don’t have to take any assignment you dont want”. They always have thousands of shoppers who do not work and have nothing else to do, and WILL take the $5 shops so they don’t care if YOU take it or not; means nothing to them. I tell them its insulting when your travel and report time are involved, and when you have a proven track record and years of experience and they really do not care.

Just turn them down and don’t waste your energy on them. Companies get rich; not us not unless you really hussle.

$5.00 shops were good when first started and actually got reimbursed for gas shop. However I hadn’t any gas shops come up in years. The only shops I accept are those financially that will put me ahead ,on my route anyway and won’t cost me more than my costs(ie faxing, getting to a fax,and the gas and time for the shop).Everyone is right nobody really wins except the top guys who get more out of it in the long run while the bottom of the rung gets actually .And some people who don’t really need the peanuts will go back repeatly to the zoo.

  5. DL says:

It didn’t take me long to figure out that anything under $12 is not worth my time and now, my gas. The gas company shops (Exxon, etc.) were the very first I stopped doing many months ago.
In this, my first year, I have done everything. First the crappy $5 shops adn now, hospitality and fine dining. And I am now able to pick and choose the better shops that pay the highest. I am very diligent with my shops, supply lots of narrative and I use spell check every report. I always get a high grade, 10 or 9. So, when those silly $5 shops come along, I DELETE!
So, in this bad economy, when MS comes in handy as a little second income, I pay myself more.

  6. Billie says:

The boycott works for me. I had already decided no more $5 or less shops. And I am weeding out the “reimbursement” shops. I’ve changed my direction in mystery shopping and looking for unique opportunities with a higher standard, more pay and little or no reimbursements required.
To date this month I have done 22 shops that have no reimbursements and the pay has ranged between $20-$50.

The shops I have done that require a receipt and a reimbursement have been $10-$15 shops.

And I agree about the meal reimbursements. Food prices have gone up and prices to eat dining out have gone up. The reimbursements do not cover the actual cost plus my time doing the reports.

i WONDER how much MONEY the ‘assignment shops’ get for their part. i bet you 5 bucks that they are paid w a y more than 5 dollars.
Boycott, Girlcott, no doubt. The most humorous 5 dollar offer i got recently was a rush/emergency shop that paid a 3 dollar bonus !!!
Sarcastically i responded and suggested that now i can finally make a living driving around the city making all that money…(after expenses just about 2 or 3 dollars)

Hey Jacob you got to keep up the pressure and get more people to sign up . In my area of South Louisiana The company with the four dollar gas shops are really behind in getting these shops done. They now advertise them at $10 and a lot of the 7-8 shops are going to $10
I have never been called to do a $5 dollar shop. But when they do call I know they will be paying a big bonus and they know that I will get it done for them to meet their deadlines. Most all of us have taken lower priced shops when we got started Then when we figure our gas and the time to do a report and the downloads we have to due we realised that we would have come out better paying $5 to the company not to do it.

HEY THE AD ON THIS VERY PAGE IS ‘OFFERING’ MYSTERY SHOPPING MAKE .$4,500 A MONTH…surveylot.com or something…it seems paradoxical that on a 5 dollar site we are being scammed for a 4500 dollar offering…lets do the math….just for fun though 900 mystery shops per month x 5 dollars each = 4500 dollars. so if you can just do 30 mystery shops a day … well then you can quit your ‘other’ job. and the scams just keep coming . . .someone please join that site so we can get a more ‘5’oclock news version of the theives that work there… PLEASE. NOTICE THOUGH ***THEY ARE OFFERING FREE MEMBERSHIP…SWAMPLAND FOR SALE.

  10. Janie says:

This is in reply to Billie about “22 shops to date this month”. How do you get 22 shops in less than a month that pay $20-$50 for all of them much less no reimbursement? I have been mystery shopping for 7 years and never got that many and I always get ratings of 9 & 10. I am registered with many, many companies of which several call me to do a shop. I won’t do anymore Shoe Carnival shops and there’s one within walking distance. Definitely not worth the time.

  11. alimoneyal2 says:

I am with you Janie, I have been at it for over a year now and them Shoe Carnival shops where you have to buy a pair of shoes than return them but they forget to tell you you wont get your money back only a credit good at that store. And their pizza shops where you have to destory the pizza to take pics of it. Than they want you to eat it. 20-50 DOLLAR shops are far and few, and they will take you at least a half of day to write your reports.
we dont have to turn down $5 shops just don’t apply for them to start with. Companys aint going to call you do do a $5 shop, but they will call you when they raise them to 10-15

  12. Bobby says:

We have to continue to boycott $5.00 shops, my ink to print a copy of the report which can be five pages at .39 each, not counting color copies, $1.95 so actually you are getting $3.05 for a shop.

  13. Kathy says:

I have to say, you have changed things, they are finally increasing shop pay and they are more apt to give you a bonus when asked…you have changed a few companies and I notice alot more offers for the small paying jobs and they are not getting the response they use to,so Thank you,Lets all Keep It Up

  14. Toni says:

I’m late in responding to Randall’s statement above, on 8-20-08, regarding “survey” earnings. I signed up to do a survey and completed the survey. However, before I summitted the survey, I was prompted to sign up for the retailer’s “trial offers.”

In order to be financially compensated for completing this survey, I had to agree on excepting a product offer, from their affiliate company. The product offer was expected to be for a continued period. However, the company offered a trial period, stating within two weeks I could cancel. If the product was not canceled within the two weeks trial, it would be billed monthly, to my credit card.

In order for me to complete this survey, I needed to provide my credit card information for the company to bill me, for monthly payments. So what was “free?”

The end result was, I would pay for a product that the company had selected for me to purchase. The survey would pay me a fee for completing the survey, which was twenty five dollars. So please ! I’m confused, help me out with the math… what profit did I make ?

  15. Ricky says:

Keep it up. Tell everyone you know who shops that we all have to be united. If no one accepts the $5.00 shops then they eventually will have no choice but to raise the pay. Stand Firm!!!

  16. Sandie says:

I was a mystery shopper for about 2 months. They only paid me $5 for every shop. I spoke with them about the price and was told that is the normal pay. So, I discontinued mystery shopping. It was a great idea but the pay stunk!

  17. randall says:

mostly hype…look at the adds on this very page…4500 per month…50 dollars per hour…not likely…currently i do not know anyone that is doing that income. sorry jan i know they pay the bills.

  18. Alice says:

I had been doing mystery shops, but then realized with the price of gas and my time, it was a loosing deal. I quit mystery shopping in 2005. I definitely support boycotting all $5 shops. I agree it’s the mystery shop providers who are making the money.
I have noticed that the fees have increased lately, so I’m slowly getting back into mystery shopping again. I do have one problem though that I’m wondering if anyone can help me with. I had received my silver certificate in my earlier days; however, I had to do a wipe and reload on my computer. I no longer have the email address I registered under for my silver certificate available. Any recommendations as how I can find out what my silver certificate number was?

    Thank You!

  19. Elle says:

Just go on the MSPA site Alice and click on the certification section…there’s a FAQ that tells you how to get it if you lost your info. Did you notice much difference in pay or opportunities after getting your silver certification?

  20. Thank you for providing me with these article examples. May I ask you a question?
