Is the ShadowShopper Controversy Over?

ShadowShopper used to be the most controversial company in the mystery shopping world. Just one mention of them would threaten to ignite a huge discussion, with many people calling ShadowShopper a “scam,” and just as many people singing its praises.

First of all — ShadowShopper is a scheduling company. That means they find assignments for the people registered with them. They work with hundreds of companies, and have jobs available in nearly every nook and cranny of the United States.

But they charge for their service. And that makes some people downright upset.

If you believe that you shouldn’t pay for a service such as ShadowShopper, then it just isn’t for you.

For many people though, their investment in ShadowShopper has been worth the cost. Read this post from MysteryShopForum.com by a woman named Connie:

I signed up for Shadow Shopper 4 months ago and I Love them. I’m an at home mom and I’ve been getting 3-4 jobs a week. The $100.00 was the best money I have spent in years. I work every weekend doing Demo’s in Walmarts and Costco…making great money. I got those jobs from shadow shopper. You have to apply… I dont get called for everyone I apply for, but I do get about 70% of the jobs I’ve responded too. I do not believe you should pay for jobs, but Shadow Shopper is a job board… I made the $100 back on my first job.

For her, the small investment in ShadowShopper was paid for with just one days worth of work.

She also hits the nail on the head as to why ShadowShopper is finally becoming less controversial. People are finally ‘getting it’ that ShadowShopper provides a service…they are a “job board” that finds you assignments. They are not a mystery shopping company…they are a middleman that can make your life a lot easier, by finding you companies/assignments in a lot less time than the “standard” way.

In my experience I have found that the ShadowShopper service is the most useful for people who are new to mystery shopping. If you are already established and have plenty of assignments coming your way, then I do not recommend signing up with ShadowShopper. However, if you are new to mystery shopping and want to quickly get to work, then I highly recommend taking a look at their services.

You are right, Shadowshopper is great for first time and newbie shoppers. Just remember this, what you sign up at a certain level for any amount of time with this company and your membership expires, you cannot renew it at the same level. You must upgrade to the next level and the greater cost. This is why a lot of shoppers think this company is a scam.
